I can recommend this book to anybody who wants to learn how to paint with oil colors beautiful landscapes.A big thank you to the author for sharing his knowledge with us. This book provides all the essential knowledge and encouragement for future or already existing artists.
The bottom line: this book provided a liberating experience; encouraging me to relax and just paint. Beginners will learn from this book, but unless you have mastered some basic drawing and composition techniques, the style of painting exhibited might be difficult to achieve. The best thing about this book is the encouragement to paint freely, in your own natural style. For that reason, it is probably most useful for the intermediate to advanced painter.
If your a beginner looking for tips, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Looks like I am going to be odd man out in my review of this book as instructional. If you know what your doing, this book offers some great insight into translating what you see.
Again, maybe I didn't view correctly. Maybe I didn't hit the right view button, but I didn't want to buy what I could not see. Hi, my only comment is that I would have liked to view some of the artist's painting/technique's in the promotional interior view Amazon provides. The interior view showed me nothing of the artist's talent, just a lot of text.
How does he handle trees. Even experienced painters will find themselves using this book in more than a cursory way. I love this book. How about those clouds. He also has many wonderful tips about pochade boxes and travelling with your painting gear. Kevin McPhearson is not only an inspiring painter, but a skilled teacher as well. I keep this open in my studio and refer to it often.
